Iceland often felt like a Willy Wonka adventure – chartreuse marshmallow moss; pots of smoky, boiling chocolate mud; tons of crackling ice; holes in the ground exploding with scalding water that turns to froth; and azure lakes with floating blue diamonds. With all these unbelievable sights and a culture of belief in fairies and elves, Iceland is a natural destination for families.
Paris Layover: Just a Pinch of Paris
We bookended our road trip through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro with a Paris layover. One really can’t complain about a day in the city on one end and two days on the other end so we could use our airline miles for three free tickets to Zagreb. Paris is a city that can take months to fully discover, but a few days was all we had so we made it work.
Our Oaxaca Reading List
In August we are headed to Oaxaca so we are busily reading books to build our Oaxaca reading list. We are taking Beija and her friend Pacifica on this trip. They’ll both be 12 when we set off and are great readers. They wrote some of the reviews for me – I am liking this approach! Our Oaxaca reading list has given me high anxiety about scorpions. We’ll see how it goes.
Morocco with Kids – A Lively, Delicious Route
We learned so much from our time in Morocco when Beija was 10. It was such a different culture and opened our eyes to new art, food, and social structures. I asked Beija what she liked most about Morocco and without hesitation she said, “camping in the desert, medinas, and the food.” So we’ll tell you how to get all that and more in the rest of this post.
GPS Tried to Kill us in Marrakesh
This is a short experiential piece I wrote after a near death experience trying to find our riad in the medina of Marrakesh GPS was our only hope to find our riad and she was not in a helpful mood. Looking back, I don’t know why we followed the Garmin GPS’s commands in Marrakesh. She was domineering. Demanding. Relentless.
